All About Call To Actions (CTAs)
Over the past few years, you could say that marketing has changed. Quite a lot. With the growth of technology, it seems that practically every week there is a new and exciting way to market your products for success.
But there are some elements that haven’t changed over the years. This includes elements such as call to actions, or CTAs.
The idea of driving potential customers to take specific actions is something that has never changed over the years. There are basic principles that need to be followed to ensure you have strong, clear CTAs.
What exactly is a call to action?
A call to action is essentially exactly what it says on the tin. It’s an invitation for a user to take a desired action.
Whether you know it or not, you will come into contact with call to actions every day. You see them on TV adverts, billboards, websites. You get them anywhere a company is trying to sell a product or service.
However selling isn’t the only goal of a CTA.
Whether you’re trying to get people to sign up to a newsletter, look at a product or even vote, a call to action can be perfectly designed to fit your purpose.
High Life North has cleverly placed two call to action buttons to sign up to their newsletter. There’s one in the header slideshow to first grab peoples attention, and then there is another in the footer.
How do you write a call to action?
Like with anything, you need to have your goal in mind before deciding on how to write your CTA. Are you trying to increase subscriptions? Maybe you’re wanting to boost your sales? Or maybe you’re just simply wanting to move people from a page onto another to keep them on your website.
Once you know exactly what you’re wanting to do, you can think about how you’re going to do it.
No matter what your goal is, it’s important to keep the language strong and concise. Take this as an example: ‘Click here to take a look at our holidays’ is a lot less effective than ‘Discover the world. Discover you. Book your next adventure.’
And there you have it! That’s the basics of a call to action! How you choose to carry out the design of your CTA is completely up to you. Whether you want to grab peoples attention with eye catching designs or make the text something your reader won’t forget, it’s important to tailor it to suit your brand.
